The days between Christmas and New Year are sometimes used for a bit of relaxation after the busy festive season – but other times they’re used to make the most of special seasonal events. If you’re looking to head out and wondering where to go, we’re here to help you out. Here are some activities running between Christmas and New Year to keep you busy and having fun.
Founding Footsteps Holiday Light Tour
Even the season’s biggest Scrooges would enjoy Philly’s ORIGINAL BYOB Holiday Light Trolley Tour. With talented local musicians playing holiday music as you go, holiday ‘spirits’, which you bring along yourself, will enhance the festive feel. Get loud, sing along and swig along. It may be your last chance to belt out your favorite holiday numbers this year!
Adults, children, and people of all ages will be thrilled by live performances throughout December. Holiday-inspired productions such as The Philadelphia Orchestra’s Children’s Holiday Spectacular, The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert, and The Glorious Sound of Christmas are not to be missed. Keep spirits high at A Philly POPS Christmas: Spectacular Sounds of the Season or enjoy a timeless classic with the Philadelphia Ballet’s The Nutcracker.
Pop-up bars are a delight at any time of year, but winter does bring its own special magic! Philly’s original Christmas pop-up bar, Tinsel, returns to the former Simpson’s Jewelry store in Midtown Village, open daily through New Year’s Eve. Enjoy decorations that include Krampus, Santa Gritty, a Christmas advent calendar overrun by elves, and Santa’s throne room.
Tinsel’s new holiday light show is the main attraction – an augmented reality experience. And if that’s not enough, their new holiday menu celebrates the 12 days of Christmas with cocktails served in holiday themed glassware.
Craftsman Row Saloon, located at 112 S. 8th Street in the heart of Jewelers’ Row, has returned with a Christmas pop-up that is bigger and brighter than ever. The bar has been transformed into a magical winter wonderland with over 50,000 ornaments, thousands of lights, 5,000 feet of garlands, 100 wreaths, 50 nutcrackers, and hundreds of deer and Santa dolls. Try not to get lost in there!
One for the season’s grinches, Uptown Beer Garden can be a holiday go-to for the green (of character). You may feel as if you’ve stepped into Whoville when you see the canopies, a tunnel that leads to a lit-up Grinch face, a Christmas dinner tableau (sit and “carve the roast beast”) a Christmas tree surrounded by Whos, and a huge, spangled Krampus. Drinks with names like ‘’You’re a Mean One’, ‘Reindeer Fuel’, and ‘Wallow in Self Pity’, amongst others, complete the festive atmosphere.
