Our Story

Our story was a book club looking to spice up our regular meetings with something fun.  We went online and were surprised at how many wineries are in the area.  Also, many of them do fun events and that is what attracted us to Sand Castle Winery.

Once we chose the winery, we know we needed to book some transportation.  While we are a very active group of women in their sixties, we are also smart enough to realize a day of wine tasting means no one should be driving.

We ultimately selected want they call a “Wedding Sprinter”, which is a popular vehicle used for shuttle services during Weddings.  We weren’t disappointed.

Sand Castle Winery

Sand Castle Winery was founded in 1974 by brothers Joseph and Paul Maxian. Born and raised in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, a region renowned for winemaking, the Maxian brothers combined European and American tradition to create world class, premium wine.

The winery name and facility is inspired by a magnificent castle in their hometown of Bratislava. The 10,000 square foot castle includes, a tented Garden Pavilion, the second floor Grand Hall, and an expansive tasting room, and a 7,000 square foot wine cellar. Sand Castle Winery hosts daily wine tastings and tours, private tastings, events, and is a distinctive location for parties and weddings.

Sand Castle Winery grows four grapes on 72 acres overlooking the Delaware River. The Central Delaware Valley is recognized by the government as a designated viti-cultural district, one of the few places in the world where Cabernet, Chardonnay, Riesling, and Pinot Noir can grow with equal success.

Wine education is a part of every visit to Sand Castle Winery. The enthusiastic winemakers and staff encourage guests to not only enjoy the wine, but also understand where it came from. The relaxed environment leads to a delightfully approachable education on the art of winemaking and the hobby of consumption.

Our Wine Tour

Our Sprinter arrived at Noon on Sunday.  There were 10 of us in total and our Chauffeur, Andy, was very nice.  It was about an hour’s drive to the winery and we took the time to begin our book discussion.  It was a cool setting to discuss a book.

We arrived at Sand Castle Winery right on time.  The event they were holding was a Bonfire.  We arrived to find live music, a complete barbecue style food station, two wine tasting stations and of course the bonfire!

What an amazing day.  The staff was really helpful and informative and they went out of their way to answer questions.  While we didn’t have the chance on this visit to do a tour of the winery, we plan on going back as we heard it is a really neat experience.

We arrived back home a little after 5pm.  Everybody had a great time.  It was nice not having to worry about driving and Kevin Smith Transportation Group was easy to deal with the entire time.

Fun Facts about Sand Castle Winery

Sand Castle Winery has a long history of winemaking that goes back to European roots.  All of the vines are exclusively “Vitis Vinifera”, which means they are special seedlings that are cloned from a specific European stock.  They are then specially chosen by the master winemaker.

What is interesting is that all of the wine produced are made exclusively from grapes grown on the property, earning the wine the title of “estate grown”.  Visiting the winery gives you a chance to experience the finest European winemaking traditions right in Bucks County, PA.

Transportation Options

If you are considering booking a Wine Tour with Kevin Smith Transportation Group, know that there are many vehicle options to choose from.

Stretch Limousines

Kevin Smith Transportation Group offers a variety of stretch limousine options when we called them.  They included Lincoln MKT’s that could handle up to 8 passengers and a gorgeous white Stretch Denali that could handle up to 18 passengers.

Party Buses

When we called, the Party Bus options were amazing.  Besides all of the extra space you get, the music, televisions and other features made it a really nice option.  The coolest option was that they have Party Buses for groups of to 28.  For those people planning a Wine Tour for a large group, these are perfect.

Luxury Sedans and SUV’s

For smaller groups or couples, a luxury sedan or SUV is perfect.  You don’t have to worry about driving while tasting all of the amazing wines that are offered at the Pennsylvania Wineries and you can simply sit back, relax and enjoy the entire experience.

Last Words

While we definitely want to go back for the tour, we also are considering adding in a second or third winery to the trip.  Next time, we will probably leave the books behind as well!
